Verb Anatomy: To Have

 

REVIEW

 

Interjection = word or phrase use as a strong expression of feeling or emotion

 

Interrogative = Sentence purpose = asking a question   ?????

 

Complex = Sentence Structure

  • 1 independent clause + 1 dependent clause

 

Dependent Clause = Adverbial or Adjectival

  • Adjectival clauses use Relative Pronouns
  • Adverbial clauses use subordinating conjunctions

  • 4 Forms: Simple, Perfect, Progressive, Perfect Progressive
  • Verbs tell time: Past, present, future
  • Persons of a verb: First, Second, Third, Singular, Plural

Race to find and read out loud the different verb tenses

 

Diagram in Class (dictate sentence)

 

Will the boy who bit me send me an apology?

 

  • Is there a dependent clause? (“who bit me”) = who = adjectival
  • Label the independent clause and diagram (“Will the boy send me an apology”)
  • Find sentence patterns

I bought Braelynn a cookie at lunch when she made me laugh.

  • Is there a dependent clause? (“when she made me laugh”) = when = adverbial
  • Label and diagram the independent clause first (“I bought Braelynn a cookie at lunch”)
  • Find sentence patterns
